Groundwork

As of last week the house has a foundation! These pictures are from last Friday. I'm just a bit behind posting since Chris has been out of town. It's no longer just flags in the ground or a giant hole - there's actually a structure now. It's so exciting to see everything take shape - literally!

One Big Hole

I swung by the new house/lot today to see if anything had happened since the groundbreaking last Thursday. I arrived to a 1300 sq ft hole in the ground! Digging is underway, there are huge mountains of dirt and gravel, some concrete forms have been poured, and there are various building materials scattered around the site. It's exciting to see the plans we've only seen on paper starting to take shape!

Hard Hats and Shovels

Yesterday there was a ground-breaking ceremony for the Trend Home. Members of the Wisconsin Builders Association, Valley Home Builders Association, WBA Foundation, local VHBA suppliers, and channel 5 CBS attended.

There was a short ceremony then we dug our shovels into dirt to officially break ground and kickoff the project. We were all excited to see a short segment on the 5 o'clock news last night! We're thrilled that the media is interested in the project, even this early stage, and we're going to give them lots of good stuff to cover as we get into full swing.

The Staking

On Wednesday our lot was staked. There's lot of technical stuff that goes into this process - I saw a PDF of notes I came no where close to understanding. I just like the colorful flags and pink spray-painted posts stuck all over our yard. These outline where our new house will sit! Man, the yard looks BIG!

Every After Has a Before

Deschane Homestead Appleton aka Chris and Erin's (and Natalie's!) New Digs aka Wisconsin Trend Home 2010 officially kicked off this week! But before all the excitement got underway, I went out to the lot to take some "before" pictures on Tuesday.

Here's 1464 Plains Ave., Neenah, WI when it was mere scruffy land. Not much longer - we have big plans for it!
